We had such a great time at our Blooms and Brews Floral Design class on Friday! We hosted our class at Element 112, during the First Friday Art Walk in Downtown Sylvania. The theme this month was Red, White and Brew and so we wanted to pair with Element so they could provide the burgers, beer and Beautiful Blooms by Jen provided the blooms!

We decided to teach how to design a “just picked” arrangement in a mason jar using many locally grown flowers so that our students would feel comfortable picking flowers out of their garden and filling their mason jar again.

The ladies arrived and we had cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 where we ordered our burgers and beers and mingled.

These burgers were so good! Element 112 has a Tuesday night Burger and Beer special you definitely need to check out! Colleen and I recommend the Bubbles beer!

After we enjoyed our burgers, Colleen and I passed out the tools, mason jars, and buckets of flowers. We began our arrangements by adding greenery like a grid. Then we added our larger flowers and finished with our fun textures. It was so fun watching everyone design their arrangements and seeing how they all turned out.

Each bucket had the same flowers, but the sunflowers were either traditional yellow, or a new white sunflower that we just discovered in the last few weeks! With everyone receiving the same instruction, it is so fun to see everyone’s creativity shine through!

The next Beautiful Blooms by Jen floral design class is in the works! It will take place in conjunction with the Red Bird Art Walk on August 3rd. Stay tuned!

We were so excited to offer this super fun wine and design floral design class for the first time right after Mother’s Day where Mom’s and daughters could come as an awesome Mother’s Day gift and make a super fun night out for ladies!  We chose Element 112 because they have fantastic food, drinks and their room, the Periodic Table is a room we’ve used before when delivering flowers for showers, parties and even a small wedding. It was the perfect setting!

The groups of ladies arrived at Element 112, in downtown Sylvania, for cocktail hour! They were served wine and beer and appetizers that were all included in their price of the class. Billie Jo, from Beauty by Billie Jo, was also on hand to help the ladies pick out the perfect lip stick color by LimeLight!  Then once everyone had the perfect lip, they were able to get their picture taken by the Toledo Goof Booth, by Love is Greater Photography!  Then to finish up cocktail hour, they were treated to desserts from So Sweet Pastries!

Colleen, from BBBJen, Billie Jo, from Beauty by Billie Jo, Jen from BBBJen and Stacey from Toledo Goof Booth

Then the designing began!  Beautiful Blooms by Jen’s Certified Florist, Jen Linehan instructed the ladies on how to create a pedestal centerpiece in whites, ivories and blushes and we finished them off with draping greenery and a succulent!  It was discussed that this would also be a super fun class for a bride and bridesmaids to come do and design the wedding centerpieces together!

All prepped and ready to go for class!

Cocktail hour while everyone admired their buckets of gorgeous flowers!

Beer and wine were included in the price of this design class.

After enjoying appetizers from Element 112 and dessert from So Sweet Pastries, we prepared to begin our floral designs.

We added our hydrangea first, and then our snapdragons.

What a great Mother’s Day gift!

The last thing we added to our designs was the greenery to fill in any holes we had and to add a romantic element.

The silver dollar eucalyptus was a hit!

This design class was also a super fun night out for girlfriends!

And Moms, daughters and Coworkers all together!

Love how much fun everyone had!

The finished project!

I live, eat, breathe, Beautiful Blooms by Jen. It’s been my entire life since 2008 when I began my company out of my house. Fast forward a few years and it’s been 7 years this January that we’ve had our full retail shop open!  People couldn’t believe that I planned my first pregnancy to be due in December so I could have Cooper when it wasn’t wedding season. Hey- I couldn’t believe that it worked either but we were totally going to stop trying if we hadn’t gotten pregnant and wait for the next off season. We lucked out again when I became pregnant again and am due November.

Beautiful Blooms by Jen started off as just me, working out of my house. Now I have a staff of 7 other amazing individuals!  6 plus our awesome delivery driver, Scott. There is no way I would be able to design over 100 weddings a year in addition to tons of parties, events and daily deliveries. In fact, my main job is at a computer and meeting with clients about their events. Days go by without me even getting to touch a flower, which is sad, but I love the business aspect of owning a business as well. So even though the sign says Beautiful Blooms by Jen, any of my talented staff could have been the ones to design your fabulous flowers!

The moral of the story is that I have an amazing staff that will take care of each and every customer just like I would while I’m on maternity leave. Sarah and Colleen have each been on my team for over 5 years! And Hailley is going on 3! Plus, I am still able to be emailing and chatting with brides while I’m not physically in the shop.

Business goes on as usual while I’m on maternity leave, whenever Jaxon comes, and everything will still be perfect for our fabulous customers! We have some super exciting projects going on that I am so excited to be able to focus on and share when we can. If you email me, Jen@beautifulbloomsbyjen.com, please know that I will be answering emails as soon as I can, in between holding my brand new baby : )  If you need immediate assistance, please call the shop at 419-517-8821. Thanks to everyone for your support and patience during this exciting milestone!

We had such a blast at our fall Wine and Wellness in September. 11 ladies designed an arrangement from local flowers and then learned about Essential Oils from Mary Bryant, of Melaleuca, The Wellness Company. Oils that were discussed were lavender, lemon and Peace which is a Tranquility Oil Blend that includes tangerine, orange, patchouli, tans, elemi and German chamomile blue.

Our flowers were almost all locally grown flowers from Barnswallow Farms.  They included sunflowers, celosia, roses, snapdragons, ageratum, globe amaranth and explosion grass.

Traci and Ana made our class a Mother-Daughter night out. Ana is such a talented designer and I love watching her creativity bloom. Her designs are very zen because she even uses her stems in her design. Plus she is so sweet, she made her arrangement for her teacher at school!

Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I always wanted to open my flower shop, but for those of you who don’t know, I taught floral design at high schools for 5 years before opening Beautiful Blooms by Jen. It was an honor to be asked to teach a floral design class to my friends from the Special Events Association of Northwest Ohio, SEANO yesterday.

“SEANO is a network of event professionals representing local businesses, attractions, educational institutions, non-profits, hotels and convention bureaus committed to event programming.”

The group had a social at The Cinnamon Stick where they were able to taste their croissants, quiche, pies and ice cream cocktails. After some networking we designed a floral design using all locally grown flowers from Barn Swallow Farms.
