Florist Friday- Meet Sarah!

I first met Sarah when she was a freshman at Southview High School and she was one of my horticulture students! She was one of the most talented floral designers I taught and I was so excited when she decided to apply to Ohio State ATI and major in Floral Design and Marketing! She earned an awesome scholarship because of all the hard work she put in during high school and the competitions she had competed in.

During college, Sarah worked at Creque’s Greenhouse during the summer and interned at a flower shop in Wooster, OH during college. We were so lucky that we were just expanding as she needed a full time job! She was the perfect fit since she’d begun her training with me!

As one of the youngest in the shop, Sarah took charge with our kid’s classes and did a great job!

As the shop grew and we are now too busy for kid’s classes every weekend, she has now moved into one of our lead designers! She works full time at Beautiful Blooms by Jen and she has become such an creative designer and wonderful saleswoman! She has recently begun working with families in planning their sympathy flowers and is doing a great job!

Sarah says one of her favorite things about working at a flower shop is seeing someone’s reaction to her work. Especially at weddings when the bride is so relieved and smiling when she sees everything is perfect.

Sarah also says one of her favorite things to do at the shop is corsages.

Another fun fact is that her dad is our delivery driver when we need him. He’s also the athletic trainer at Southview High School so it’s so awesome that he helps us out!

And she loves when she has artistic freedom with a design. Her recommendation for Valentine’s Day is choosing Designer’s Choice so she can design you something creative!

It’s been so fun watching Sarah grow up and we’re so fortunate to have such an amazing designer and person working at Beautiful Blooms by Jen! Look what a beautiful young lady she has become!

2016 Holiday Classes at Beautiful Blooms by Jen

Our first opportunity is for kids of all ages! Stop in at Beautiful Blooms by Jen anytime between 3-5pm Monday December 19th, Tuesday December 20th, or Wednesday December 21st and design a pinecone centerpiece! It just takes as long as it takes each child to design. Typically around 20-30 minutes. Make one, or make a bunch! $5 per project includes all supplies. Perfect for grandparent and teacher gifts!

No reservations needed! Please stop in to have your child design a centerpiece.

We are also hosting an Adult Holiday Centerpiece Class on December 22nd from 7pm-8:30pm at Chandler Cafe. We picked the 22nd so that flowers will be nice and fresh for Christmas or Hanukkah.

We are so excited to offer our holiday centerpiece adult class again this year. We love the design that we’ve chosen and hope you do too! The design consists of winter greenery, red roses, lotus pods, red ribbon and lily grass.

The class price is $35 and includes all materials needed for you to make and bring home your own holiday arrangement! See picture above. Other rose and ribbon colors will be available as well.

Make it a girls night! Chandler Cafe will have a wine special for $4 and appetizers for sale. It’s also a great gift to give your mom or daughter and do an awesome activity together!

If you’re looking for a floral design class, we typically teach them in our off season which is November-April. We love groups of girl friends, girl scouts, co-workers, birthday parties and more. We can accommodate groups of any size whether it is in our flower shop or another local shop nearby.

Girl Scouts Floral Arranging Class at Camp Libbey

It was such an honor to be invited to teach a flower arranging class at the Fall Leadership Conference at Camp Libbey for the Girl Scouts of Northwest Ohio! This has been on my calendar for months and I have been looking forward to it the entire time!

Were you a girl scout? Did you ever go to a camp at Camp Libbey? I remember one summer going to a Paddle Saddle Camp at Camp Libbey with my childhood best friend. We learned to ride horses and canoe and stayed in platform tents. Such amazing memories!

The Girl Scouts who were invited to attend the Leadership Conference were in 6th-12th grade and my class was mostly from the Western half of Ohio, Eastern Indiana and Southeastern Michigan. These ladies had the opportunity to choose between multiple classes during my time slot and 16 chose to arrange flowers!

We first started talking about floral design and how to become a floral designer. Everyone then grabbed a container and we discussed floral foam, how to soak it, care and handling of flowers and taping the floral foam into the container. Then we began to green in with leather leaf, followed by pittosporum.

Then we began to add carnations and fall mums!

FAQ

Do the classes cost anything?
Yes each class is $5 except for the April 30th class which is $10.

Do I need to register or sign up?
For all classes you do not need to register, just stop into the store anytime between 10am and 2pm.

Is there a specific time to attend?
No need to follow a specific schedule! Just arrive at your leisure, anytime between 10 am and 2pm the day of the craft event.

How long do the crafts take to make?
Most crafts take less than 30 minutes, but times will vary depending on your child.

Is there an age requirement?
We welcome everyone of any age to join in on the class. We’ve had as young as 1 1/2. The younger the child, the more assistance we are able to give.

Easter Comes to Downtown Sylvania

The shops in downtown Sylvania decided to have some fun with Easter this year. Beautiful Blooms by Jen decided to host a free kids class to join in the fun. We had such an awesome turn out and check out this super cute project the kids made!

11-22-14 Thankful Tree Kid’s Class

We had one of our best turnouts ever for our Thankful Tree Kid’s Class last Saturday! Families stopped in from 10-2 and for $5 each the kids created a tree. They each cut out leaves in bright colored construction paper and listed something they were thankful for on each one. Then they hung them on the branches of their tree. They turned out awesome. We hope everyone enjoys reading all the leaves on Thanksgiving!

The awesome Dad brought in five kids! A few of his own and a few nieces and nephews. So he got recruited to help cut leaves : )

We had so much fun and can’t wait for our next class during our open house on December 6th.

We will also be having the reindeer class on December 13th! Stop in anytime 10-2pm.
