We had such a blast at the Beautiful Blooms by Jen, Fall Wreath Class! It was in conjunction with the Downtown Sylvania Association’s Downtown Delights.  We had 5 ladies and it was the perfect amount so we could all move around and design the wreath on an easel.

The class was taught by Manager, Colleen, since she is our silk specialist and Jen is about to have her baby.

...

The first step of our fall wreath was to add draping raffia.

...

Then we added silk greenery throughout to our grapevine.

Then we added gorgeous fall ribbon to the wreath.

I love watching everyone’s creativity!

It’s so fun to see how everyone’s finished product turns out!

People ask me all the time if I miss teaching. My answer is usually no… But then I am invited to work with Floriculture students and it reminds me that I do love to teach! Today Penta hosted the District 1 Floriculture Career Development Event and I was invited to help judge. This is something that while I was teaching my students would participate in. The students competing will then move on to the State Competition in April. In the 5 years I taught my students won the State 3 times so it is definitely a passion of mine. This is also the same contest that helped me earn a full ride to Ohio State to pursue my career in Floriculture.

Students working on their corsages.

My job was to proctor the corsage practicum and placing classes. Students chose from a variety of flowers and created a 3-5 flower corsage of their choice. My job was to grade them.

The students complete a hands on practicum of the state’s choice. Today the students practice creating a corsage. They also take a written exam and are quizzed on the names of tons of flowers, including latin names, and supplies.  They also place groups of flowers and plants.

At the end I was able to discuss some of the students scores. It was great because I wanted this to be a learning experience so they can do even better at states. Students came from Elmwood, Fairview, Four County JVS, Patrick Henry, Penta, Edgerton and North Central and Toledo.

Check out these awesome pictures that were shared from a Fancy Nancy Birthday Party that we designed the flowers for. What an awesome birthday party!

Let us be creative for your party! We also hold birthday parties and classes at the flower shop! Please call Beautiful Blooms by Jen at 419-517-8821 with your idea for pricing!

It’s been a year in a half since I quit my job as a floral design instructor for Toledo Public Schools and made the flower shop my full time job.  Since my sophomore year of high school owning a flower shop was my dream.  It’s so excited to have made my dream a reality.  Although I don’t miss teaching every day, I still love to teach when groups ask me to!  The 3rd graders from St. Joe’s came to earn their flower shop badge on Thursday and didn’t they do such an awesome job?

Please call Jen at 419-517-8821 for more information on bringing your group to Beautiful Blooms by Jen.  We can create classes for all ages.

I know that not everyone has a need for a grave blanket or a grave pillow. I didn’t even know what they were until I started making them in high school! They are basically large evergreen centerpieces that are taken to the cemetery and placed at a grave.

We can make them for you and even take them and place them if you are out of town. If you are in town, we can make them for you and you can pick them up…. Or you can decorate your own!  We had so much fun with this last year.  I had moms, dads, kids, grandmas, whoever wanted to come and decorate in memory of their special someone.

Classes are available Sunday November 25th at 3pm and Monday November 26th at 7pm.  To decorate a grave blanket it is $35 and for a pillow it is $25.  Classes include the blanket or pillow, all decorations and instruction.  Classes are typically under an hour long.

Sarah, one of the new Beautiful Blooms by Jen employees is a Floral Design student at Ohio State ATI and competed in the 22nd Annual Wayne County Home and Garden Show on April 28th and 29th.  She competed in three categories. The first was “Help the Bride pick her style” and Sarah chose to do classically modern.  She won first place with the design below!

The second category was “Tailgater’s Delight” for the sports fanatic.

The final category was “Opening Day” a designer’s choice piece for the opening of a new business.  Didn’t she do great?
