Beautiful Blooms by Jen was so crazy busy in 2016 we never even took new head shots or pictures for our website. Since we didn’t, we didn’t even send out holiday cards last year or this year!  So when we decided that we were due, I wanted to turn it into a super fun day!

We are so excited for our friend Julie, from JP Photography, and Brandi, from Beauty by Brandi, who opened a studio together a few months ago. We decided to choose them to pamper us while we hung out in their studio with snacks and drinks! It was so awesome to be able to get everything done in the same place while we relaxed.

One by one, we arrived and began to get beautiful because of Brandi!

We brought all kinds of snacks and outfits so that we could make sure we coordinated. Don’t worry, the girls under 21 weren’t drinking wine too. PS if you haven’t tried Apple Pie Wine from Fresh Thyme Market, you need to!

Once everyone was dressed and had their make up on, we each had our head shots taken. Then we did some group shots inside and then braved the cold weather for some group shots and quick head shot outside. We can’t wait to see how they turned out.

Since we were all pretty and it was only 5pm when we finished up with pictures, we went out to dinner at Sakura. We had decided to make this our Christmas party since we were so busy in December and we didn’t want to just head home when we were all done up! The girls had a gift exchange. The girls had surprised me with a hair cut and color when I went to get my hair done in December which was so amazing. I surprised them by inviting them all to a floral conference in March so we could all go away for the weekend and have a fun time while learning.

Sarah's dinner at Sakura Japanese Steakhouse!

It was super dark at Sakura, so that’s the only picture we took! But it was delicious and we had a great time. Could not believe how crazy busy it was in there. We were very thankful to be able to grab a table instead of waiting for a hibachi table.

Then we decided to head to The Cinnamon Stick, which is a new bakery on Holland Sylvania Rd. Cooper and Kyle met us over there because who doesn’t love dessert?! Cooper was so excited to try a brownie sundae!  They also have amazing pies and shakes with alcohol!

Man I have an amazing team. Not only are they such hard workers, they are all amazing friends and we all have such a great time together! Here’s to a great 2017!

Cooper and Momma get to hang out a lot during basketball season. With all the special holiday schedules and days off, as a business owner, you’re never totally off duty. The good news is that I get to work with an adorable assistant! With Christmas and New Years, we have had funerals the day we were back to work and so we needed gorgeous fresh flowers for our customers. So Cooper and I have headed down to the wholesale house in Perrysburg twice the last few weeks.

If you follow us on instagram or facebook you’ve probably seen pictures of Cooper growing up and Cooper smelling flowers. He really loves to come visit the flower shop.

This was before Christmas and he is still telling me about lilies. This kid and his memory crack me up!

Right after his 2nd birthday he got to go to the wholesale house for the first time! He LOVED it! I wanted to share some pictures.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like inside the wholesale house, it’s kind of like a grocery store filled with flowers and supplies. The supplies are in aisles where you can walk up and down and grab what you need. And then inside the giant cooler there are buckets and buckets and rows and rows of flowers that are available for us to hand pick.

2

The first thing he did was go right to the closest flower to smell them. Unfortunately he picked statice which doesn’t really smell!

4

Cooper loved the berries!

5

Then we headed over to check out the miniature carnations.

6

We almost lost his head inside these roses!

Then we went again on New Years Day. He talked about going to the “flower store”  the whole way there.

7

He picked the perfect flowers to sniff first this time. Check out these amazing garden roses!

8

And then we found these gorgeous peonies! But it’s funny, the flower he decided was his favorite were the green roses. He talked about them all day!

He loves fist bumping Dan, Dan the Flower Man too. We might have a future florist folks!  Hopefully we can go visit Cleveland Plant and Flower again soon! Thanks Dan!

So I had this blog started with pictures we took, but man oh man CAP-ture Photography knocked it out of the park with this one! Plus Marissa had the best smelling bouquet! Garden roses just smell amazing! And wow did it look amazing with her lace dress!

I absolutely loved how everything came together with this wedding. The bridesmaid’s dresses were the perfect blush compliment to Marissa’s dress. The only damper on the day was the weather, but Stone Oak has a gorgeous tent outside that the wedding was able to be moved into.

The flowers at the base of the chairs were planned to go on shepherd’s hooks outside, but looked great down the aisle in the tent too.

Marissa was all about simple elegance for the reception and I think it was perfect with the pearls and candles and the pop of blush hydrangea in the center.

We are also hosting an Adult Holiday Centerpiece Class on December 22nd from 7pm-8:30pm at Chandler Cafe. We picked the 22nd so that flowers will be nice and fresh for Christmas or Hanukkah.

We are so excited to offer our holiday centerpiece adult class again this year. We love the design that we’ve chosen and hope you do too! The design consists of winter greenery, red roses, lotus pods, red ribbon and lily grass.

december class
The class price is $35 and includes all materials needed for you to make and bring home your own holiday arrangement! See picture above. Other rose and ribbon colors will be available as well.

Make it a girls night! Chandler Cafe will have a wine special for $4 and appetizers for sale. It’s also a great gift to give your mom or daughter and do an awesome activity together!

Only a few spots are left!

If you’re looking for a floral design class, we typically teach them in our off season which is November-April. We love groups of girl friends, girl scouts, co-workers, birthday parties and more. We can accommodate groups of any size whether it is in our flower shop or another local shop nearby.

At Beautiful Blooms by Jen, we value education and the future of the industry. With a degree in Agriculture Education, I believe in continuous education. Because of that reason, Colleen, Sarah and I drove up to Mayesh Wholesale Florist in mid-October to attend a Michigan Floral Association Regional Meeting.

It was an awesome opportunity to get up to Detroit and see what was new at Mayesh. Many of our orders are made over the phone or through email so it’s great to see what is new and interesting in person. The wholesale house supply department basically looks like a grocery store and the rows of shelves are all filled with floral supplies like vases, baskets, ribbon, paint, etc. It’s a florist’s heaven! Plus we love our saleslady, Nora!

Mayesh also has multiple coolers that are filled with fresh flowers. There is an entire section for each variety of flowers, the greenery and a whole cooler just for tropicals like orchids!

Mayesh also fed us dinner which was fabulous! We also had the opportunity to chat with our favorite Mayesh employees which is great because the more you know your salespeople, the better they know you and what you love!

The meeting began and it was great to learn what the Michigan Floral Association is up to. I love how hard they are working to make sure that the future of the floral industry is amazing!

Then there was a fabulous presentation by Jerome Raska, from Blumz by JR Designs, called Everything is Coming Up Roses. Jerome and his partner, Robin, have premier flower shops in Detroit, Ferndale, and Ann Arbor and we have watched both of them present before and always learn so much!

We talked about fabulous flower crowns which are so in right now.

This was one of my favorite pieces that is a bridal bouquet! The textures are so fun and the armature it’s made from with the woven lily grass is why!

Love this fun way to design a dozen roses!

Can you say wow?! Love the vase! Love the Dahlias! Love the roses!

We can’t wait to go back to the shop and think outside the box when designing with roses. Thanks again to Michigan Floral Association, Mayesh Wholesale Florist and Jerome Raska!

The Ability Center is our pick for the December Charity in Bloom! We’ve had so much fun this year with our first year of the program!

We chose this gorgeous arrangement of winter foliages, burgundy candles, red and green apples, leucadendron and hypericum berries because we thought it was the perfect winter centerpiece that can be used for any occasion. It could be sent through the whole month of December because it is so long lasting!

December Charity in Bloom

Each month we choose a different non-profit to support as our Charity In Bloom. We love to support organizations that also support Beautiful Blooms by Jen.

My mom and I went to visit Holidays in the Manor House yesterday. I had never been before, but I wanted to check it out since I’d been hearing a lot about it. One of my employees and her family decorated a room and one of our favorite customers had the honor of decorating the entryway!  And then there were more surprises by other friends once we were there!

The first room you walk into was designed by one of my employees, Alisa, and her family. What an awesome Coca-Cola collection they have!  I loved the topper she designed on the Christmas Tree.

I loved how in many of their rooms there were these purple circles that shared information about our local parks as well.

Traci and her husband, Mike, were married 5 years ago in November in the Manor House so it is so cool for them to be a part of this!

And then I came around the corner and saw two sweet trees that were decorated by our friends at the Pinnacle! There was a Mrs. Tree and a Mr. Tree.

Once we went upstairs we saw this awesome snowman and cake room made by Strachn Bakery!

IMG_2460

I couldn’t believe how many people were there to walk through this awesome exhibit. It probably took about 30 minutes to walk through all the rooms because you are following the line of people in front of you. You follow a specific path and can’t go out of order. There is also a scavenger hunt if you want to participate.

Plus you could make a s’more and take a horse and carriage ride which would have been super fun! We were definitely not dressed warm enough yesterday to partake in either activity. But now we know for next time.

For more information on Holidays at the Manor House, please check it out here.

We had so much fun getting to know Megan and her mom throughout the year. Megan’s mom opened a company called the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center after having a traumatic brain injury herself. Her company was one of our Charity In Bloom choices this year and we love supporting those who support us.

What a gorgeous bride and amazing dress! She also had an awesome attitude when the weather didn’t cooperate and she had to move the ceremony inside. At least they didn’t get blown away by all the wind during their pictures!

I always tell brides that something will go wrong on your wedding day. It’s what you do when that happens that determines how your day goes. Or you can just hire a wedding coordinator like our friends over at Bee For the Day and then everything gets fixed and you never even know that there was a problem!

Please take a look at these amazing pictures from Gage Blake Photography! We love working with Mandy because she makes our work look so gorgeous!

I met Sarah’s mom through the Downtown Sylvania Association, as the owner of New-Trition, and we moved into her building when we opened our second location a few years ago. I was so honored when her daughter chose Beautiful Blooms by Jen to design her wedding flowers!

What was so cool about Sarah is that she chose to turn her mom’s wedding dress into her wedding dress. What a cool idea! Please see the finished look below.

I love fall weddings because it gives us the opportunity to use fun textures and flowers that are not available year round. The little white daisy-looking flowers are called chamomile and the little yellow ones that look like buttons are called tansy.
